At Dental Care for Children, we believe every child deserves a healthy, confident smile—regardless of financial circumstances. The Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a new federal initiative that helps make essential dental care more affordable for Canadian families.
With this program, eligible individuals can receive partial to full coverage for a wide range of dental services, including preventive cleanings, fillings, and more. If your family qualifies, the CDCP may significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs and remove one more barrier to excellent oral health.
The CDCP is a government-funded dental program designed to provide financial assistance for low- to middle-income Canadian families who do not have access to private dental insurance. It’s one more way Canada is supporting long-term health, confidence, and well-being—starting with the smile.
Depending on your family’s adjusted net income, you may receive full or partial coverage on routine and specialized dental services.
To apply, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
✅ You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
✅ Your family’s adjusted net income is less than $90,000 per year
✅ You do not have access to private or employer-sponsored dental insurance
✅ You filed your taxes last year and have a valid Notice of Assessment
Eligible seniors may have already received invitations to apply by mail. Others can apply online as the program continues to roll out in phases.
The CDCP helps cover a wide range of essential dental services, including:
Preventive care: cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants
Diagnostics: exams, X-rays
Restorative care: fillings, crowns, and pain control
Endodontics: root canals and retreatments
Periodontics: gum disease treatment, scaling
Prosthodontics: dentures, repairs, relines
Oral surgery: tooth extractions, cyst removal
Sedation services
Orthodontics (in select cases with pre-authorization)
Some procedures require pre-approval. Your provider will help determine if preauthorization is needed before treatment begins.
Coverage under the CDCP depends on your family’s annual income. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Family Income | CDCP Covers | You Pay |
---|---|---|
Under $70,000 | 100% | $0 |
$70,000–$79,999 | 60% | 40% |
$80,000–$89,999 | 40% | 60% |
Keep in mind, coverage is based on CDCP’s national fee guide, which may differ slightly from your provider’s fees. Your dental office will always be transparent about any additional costs.
